I Wanna Be Spider Woman!
Thirsty Thursdays

I Wanna Be Spider Woman!

She just showed up on our back porch one day. I thought she was beautiful, but she was scary to my girls. We didn’t approach her, but just watched her through the window. She was just hanging out, and quite frankly, she was in our way. My husband didn’t even notice her, and walked right through the temporary home she had made for herself. What she did next, I found to be truly inspiring. While we were asleep, all through the night, she worked. The next morning there it stood, more magnificent, more intricate, and more creative than the day [...]

Wedded Wednesdays

Keeping Christmas Simple

Taking a break from our regularly scheduled Wedded Wednesday… I decided to post a video blog today.  Click on the video below to view a quick message on keeping it simple during this Christmas season. Every year I tell myself that my focus is going to be where it should be, but it seems that I always seem to fall short!  Do you ever find yourself overwhelmed?  Too much to do?  Wrapped up in details?  God didn’t make Christmas complicated, but it sure is easy for me to make it that way.  My hope is that I keep my eyes [...]

Replacing Judgment with Love

Replacing Judgment with Love

It was an adulterous encounter. Dishonorable, wrong and sinful, then interrupted by several men. Imagine the embarrassment and shame. She was caught in the act of adultery so we can assume she was minimally dressed, if any clothing at all. I’m sure she did not go willingly. A brutal and humiliating scene as sin was exposed. She was taken by the religious leaders and brought in front of a group of law-abiding citizens, where Jesus was teaching. Let’s pause here. I would die! I mean, to be caught in the act of adultery and brought before a crowd. And to top [...]

The Bike Ride

Okay how many times have you day dreamed about sitting with your feet up and doing absolutely nothing all day?  Perhaps you’ve longed to just watch TV or old movies all day.   Maybe there is a book series you are anxious to dive into?  The dream vanishes, and you are snapped right back into the reality of 4 loads of laundry to wash, a pile of clean clothes to put away, a dishwasher that’s waiting to be unloaded, and toilets to scrub.   As I journey through the mundane, the little glimpses of lounging around still pop into my head and oh how [...]

Not Without A Father

Not Without A Father

She had been under the care of many doctors.  All of her money went towards finding a cure for her condition.   However, instead of getting better, she was getting worse.   She had been bleeding for twelve years.  This condition isolated her, as she was considered ceremonially unclean.  Anyone who touched her would have been considered unclean as well.  The story of this woman is found in three of the four gospels in the Bible (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) and has always fascinated me.   When I was younger, the story was intriguing to me because she was healed by simply touching the [...]

With my inspiring friend Adrienne

Combating Satan’s Lies to Our Children

“Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8b Quietly she sat on the ground by the playground reading a book.  I knew right away she was a Christian, and we just clicked.  I had lived in Germany almost a month and was glad to have a new friend.  Adrienne inspired me on many levels, but what I loved the most about her was that every time we were together she inspired me to be a better Christian, a better mom, a better wife, and a better friend.  Her home was welcoming, warm and [...]

Am I too busy?
Thirsty Thursdays

Am I too busy?

It had been a stressful day. Up at six o’clock, pack lunches and take my oldest to school. Rush back to the house to prepare for a leadership meeting at church (which lasted more than three hours). Grab lunch, then to the grocery to pick-up items for a school party. Organize the party and pick-up my daughter. Home for dinner and finish her school project, then back to church for kids’ activities. During it all, I’m also juggling my part-time job, fielding phone calls and trying to spend “quality time” with my youngest son. When we finally got home, I said to my husband, “I’ve had [...]

Fear

One hot, summer night at an amusement park, I heard the words I’ve been dreading. “Mom, I want to ride that roller coaster, and I’m tall enough now.” My anxiety set in. What if she is traumatized? What if the seatbelt doesn’t fasten correctly? My mind was spinning out of control. Even though

Gateway Beautiful

Acts 3: 1-11 tells the story of a man who usually sat at the Temple gate called “Beautiful” to beg for provisions. On this particular day, Peter and John were entering the Temple from that very gate and the man asked them for a handout. He might as well have been the beggar at the street corner. Peter

Don’t Procrastinate

We had enjoyed a wonderful day together. We hiked, she beat us all to the finish line. We went to a carnival, I especially remember the fun on the water bumper boats. We rode horses on a beautiful trail. We had just finished dinner at Pizza Hut, then decided to play putt-putt before heading back to our
