One Last Gift

Last May, my mother passed into the arms of Jesus after having dementia for over fifteen years. My sweet Mama was the one who gave me the example of faith. Not in words, but in her quiet lifestyle. Her worn out King James version Bible was often lain open for her growing daughters to see. She had a quiet humble spirit. I do not remember her ever gossiping or swearing. She seemed to have only kind words to say. Dementia took its time and it toll on my Mom. She slowly lost her memory and her independence. Depends and a [...]

Fear Not

What would you do if you had no fear in your life? How does fear keep you from being who God wants you to be? Do you hear Him calling you, and do you respond? Do you let yourself be led by Jesus or do you guide yourself? Think about this for a minute. Fear is not a fruit of the spirit. It is a tool used by Satan to keep us from being in complete union with the Lord. When we direct our own lives we have no security. No rock to stand on. We blindly go on alone, [...]

Remain In Him

Jesus said in John 15:4, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” It is only in the daily surrender of our will that we can be truly one with our Savior. If we want to be one with Jesus our weakness must be surrendered to Him daily so that we can live the fullness of life that He promised. Allow yourself to be one with Him today. Choose to admit you can’t do it alone [...]

Perfect Timing

Christmas 2012 is over.  All of the preparations – the shopping, the wrapping, the wandering aimlessly up and down the aisles of Wal-Mart – are behind us for another year.  Our family hosted this year, and boy did we celebrate.  Tamales from the valley ( you haven’t really had a tamale until you have eaten one from the valley), and coffee punch (thanks Bre’anna!) were the centerpiece of a feasting extravaganza.  Anytime our extended family gets together, there is a lot of eating and a lot of laughing!  We are a family who knows how to have a good time! Making Room for Jesus

Jeremiah 29:13 “Seek me with all your heart.” “Mama! Mama!” My two children came barreling around the corner, as I placed the last dinner plate into the dishwasher. Crouching on one knee, I waited for one to tattle on the other. Kayla’s brown eyes glowed with excitement as she nudged her older brother with her elbow. Zachary’s five year old smile spread across his face as he nodded at Kayla and then grabbed my hand. “Mama,” he said, “We’ve been kind to each other, and I even helped Kayla brush her teeth. We’re ready for our hay.” She grinned, “Mama, [...]

God Calling

“Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her:” Proverbs 31:28 “Mom, you’re different.” Kayla sat on the edge of her bed carefully arranging her stuffed animals as she prepared to snuggle into her blankets for the night. Standing at the foot of her bed, I tucked an errant corner of her patchwork quilt back under her mattress and turned to meet her gaze. Smiling at her I reached out and tucked a strand of her honey colored hair behind her ear, “Sweetie, what do you mean I’m different, different how?” Thoughtfully she turned back to her stuffed animals [...]

What are you Thankful for?

What are you thankful for? The truth is, when someone poses that question to me I often can’t answer right away. For me it’s the kind of question I don’t want to skip over with a pat answer like, “Oh, I’m thankful for my family and friends.” Who isn’t? That kind of thankfulness just goes without saying. No, what I’m talking about is that deep swell of gratitude that floats across your heart when you realize you have been on the receiving end of God’s favor. One Thanksgiving I was not feeling thankful as my family had just endured a [...]

Be Who You Already Are

Be Who You Already Are You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you. Song of Solomon 4:7 On a really good day it’s easy to focus on the things I like about myself. It’s easy to feel like God really knew what he was doing when he created me. Especially when it’s a good hair day, no one has thrown up on me and my outfit is cute. Those are the kinds of days that I want to say to the world, “Somebody take my picture cuz I’m looking good.” But we all know those days [...]

The Other Side

Good morning Sozo Women!  My prayer is that this October morning finds you living full lives!  Full of love.  Full of joy.  Full of peace.  But most of all, full of Him.  Sozo means “to be made whole.”  I have lived long enough to know that my only hope of wholeness is Jesus… May He receive all glory for anything healthy and whole I may accomplish on Planet Earth. I am feeling particularly full right now.  I am currently in a season of reaping some fruit after a long season of planting in perseverance.  Have you ever walked through a [...]
