Nan was taught to love God at a very young age. It was at age 30, however, that she began to learn how very much her God loved her. And it changed her life. The decade of her 30′s was a time of much growth as she studied the Bible in depth for the first time and learned about the encompassing power of prayer. The Lord has given her many opportunities to test His Word, and it has proven true every time. She is excited and humbled to share with you some things God has shown her through her relationship with Him. Nan has been married to her high school sweetheart, Jerry, for over 20 years. Together with their two sons, God planted them in La Vernia, Texas

Christmas 2012 is over. All of the preparations – the shopping, the wrapping, the wandering aimlessly up and down the aisles of Wal-Mart – are behind us for another year. Our family hosted this year, and boy did we celebrate. Tamales from the valley ( you haven’t really had a tamale until you have eaten one from the valley), and coffee punch (thanks Bre’anna!) were the centerpiece of a feasting extravaganza. Anytime our extended family gets together, there is a lot of eating and a lot of laughing! We are a family who knows how to have a good time! [...]

Welcome to the Holiday Season! Can you believe it? I was just lamenting the end of summer, and here it is the Friday before Thanksgiving! Is it just me, or is time traveling faster the older I get?… A week or so ago, I spent some time with some precious MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers), and we were discussing the temptations of the season. It seems we can be living life on a steady, functional level; and then the holidays hit. And we are thrown together with family members – some of whom we have not seen all year because we [...]

Good morning Sozo Women! My prayer is that this October morning finds you living full lives! Full of love. Full of joy. Full of peace. But most of all, full of Him. Sozo means “to be made whole.” I have lived long enough to know that my only hope of wholeness is Jesus… May He receive all glory for anything healthy and whole I may accomplish on Planet Earth. I am feeling particularly full right now. I am currently in a season of reaping some fruit after a long season of planting in perseverance. Have you ever walked through a [...]

Let’s start off by saying I am very uncomfortable writing on the topic of marriage. I don’t want to do it. But I am slow. And by the time I got to the Sozo calendar to sign up for posts, everything else was taken. I guess no one else wants to write about marriage either. Why? I can only answer for myself. Writing a post on marriage somehow implies that I know what I am doing. That I have this marriage thing figured out… AND I DON’T, OK? I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Jerry, for 21 years. [...]

Well, it is here. Today is officially the last day of summer 2012. For some of us, this day brings thoughts of freedom and restoration of order to mind, body, and soul. For others, myself included, this day is the day dreaded since school dismissed in May. I wish I could say I was dreading the start of school on Monday because I will miss my boys and want them near me at all times. While there is some truth to that, the truer truth is that I am

Happy Monday morning Ladies! So, guess what I am doing today (besides getting my hair did…)? Today, I am taking my baby son, Joshua, to register for Jr. High. Today represents a change of season for me. To the best of my knowledge, I will NEVER again parent an elementary age child. No more
Thirsty Thursdays
So, I haven’t been doing so well. Went months doing great: making my lists, checking them off, eating well, exercising, staying on top of my children and their activities. My internal, self-imposed grading scale was ticking off A+’s left and right. You know. The grading scale. The one that helps

Female Fridays
It’s hard to try something new in front of a large group of people. Everything is hard before it is easy, and I would just prefer to get through the hard part in private. You know, get my bearings. Let people believe that I just always knew how to do it. Because I am smart. And on top of things. And,
Tasty Tuesdays
Shhh… Can you hear it? It is the sound of the heavens opening up and angels singing. And right in the big, fat middle of it all sits my beloved Mama Jo. She is smiling and nodding her head in approval. Why all of this celestial fuss? Because today, May 22, 2012, Nan Elsik is posting a recipe on the
